FCC Rule Could Allow for More Candidate Appearances on SNL

An FCC ruling, titled the Equal Time Rule (which sounds like something straight from a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episode) indicates that any network that has a political candidate on its programming must in turn offer an equal opportunity to other candidates for an equal amount of time. Thus, NBC, the network of Saturday Night Live would need to give all other candidates a week to claim an equal amount of time in response to Donald Trump's SNL hosting gig this weekend.

Since Donald Trump appeared on the show for 12 minutes and 5 seconds (approximately 12 minutes too long), all other candidates have a week to claim an equal 12 minutes and 5 seconds of airtime. This airtime wouldn't necessarily be on SNL, it would just need to be on some form of NBC programming.

But isn't this the perfect opportunity for SNL? Who else would love to see a debate between the Larry David-Bernie Sanders and actual Bernie Sanders? Besides, we all know the best part of recent SNL episodes have been Larry David's spot-on impersonation along with Kate McKinnon's pitch-perfect Hillary Clinton impersonation. And what better way for SNL to make up for what was one of the worst episodes in years with some more Larry David and an invitation to genuine political candidate.
