On YouTube, almost every new extreme sport is covered using Go Pro cameras to record the action from the first-person point-of-view. The cameras are strapped to helmets, bike handles, selfie sticks and to drones. The ease for which Go Pro's can be simply strapped to anything to record video has opened up the possibilities for what can be done in action video.
Yet, Go Pro continues to innovate past its basic Go Pro video line. Recently, the company has developed a simple video editor for its line of cameras as well as its very own drone, the Go Pro Karma.
I think that in general, Go Pro (and similar action cameras) will corner the market once dominated 30 years ago by VHS camcorders through more recent DV and HD home camcorders. People simply don't consume long bits of home footage, and are instead opting for shorter length videos that can be shared on social media. Go Pro has become the perfect camera to capture candid and personal video. I think the only reason it took so long was that the surrounding technology, things like social media, high-capacity SD cards and drone technology didn't exist until the mid-2000's.
I love what GoPro has done for capturing moments. The most recent video I watched was Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Hart going through a haunted house in NYC. The variety of shots were so cool. Tonight, my son's scout unit captured the beginning of the thunderstorm on their hike in our village. It will be neat to see the view that they were able to capture.
